METHODIST CENTRAL MISSION

THE JUBILEE REPORT MISSION HALL REMODELLING GOST £20.000 The Methodist Central Mission’s jubilee report states that the work involved in administering the affairs of the three homes at Company Bay has taken much time and thought. In December last 65 hoys selected by the school medical officers were encamped in the children’s block. The eventide home is in the charge of Sister M‘Donald, and has at present three aged couples. The main home, comprising two spacious blocks, at present has 45 guests, the eldest of whom is Mrs Reason, who will be 103 on Christmas Day. In this home there is a staff of 20, with Sister Hopwood as superintendent, assisted by Sister Bailey and Sister Ruth Fawcett. After 16 years on the mission staff as deaconess to the people, Sister Hazel this year tendered her resignation on account of her approaching marriage. Sister Hazel has been an outstanding worker in community and church life. During the year the main mission ball was remodelled at a cost of £20,000. In accordance with the plan decided on by the board of trustees, the mortgages on the main building and the Company Bay homos have been reduced. The present policy is to reduce overhead expenditure as much as possible and to extinguish existing indebtedness. Throughout the 60 years of its history the board of trustees and those who have superintended the work have given time and attention to consolidation and extension. As opportunity has occurred and finance has been available, a comprehensive policy has been steadily pursued. A modern Sunday school will replace the present outdated building, and buildings long overdue for demolition will give place to others essential to centralised benevolent and institutional Christian activities.
