SWIMMING

OTAGO CENTRE MEETING The Otago Swimming Centre mej; last night, the president (Mr W. A. Jenkins) being in tbe chair. Messrs W. A. Jenkins ami E. C. Isaacs were appointed to represent the centre at a conference of sports bodies convened by the Dunedin Physical Welfare and Recreation Committee for the purpose of considering the formation of a Federation of Sport. Mr Jenkins expressed his keen approval of the project ami said that the Now Zealand Swimming Council was very desirous of some such federation being formed. It was an organisation that should bo able to accomplish much in the interests of sport as a whole. Mr W A. Jenkins was appointed to represent the centre at the annual conference of centres in Wellington next month, and Mr B. Kerr was appointed as resident delegate at Wellington. It was decided to forward a remit to the conference that the New Zealand Women's championships be held in conjunction with the intermediate and junior championships, which had already been allocated to the Taranaki Centre at New Plymouth, The educational officer (Mr D. C. Rnnnatyne) reported that a total of 2.223 swimming distance certificates had been issued during the year. These were comprised as follows :—Beginners, 810; learners, 080; proficiency. 401; merit, 176. “ Learn to Swim ” certificates had been issued as follows: Adults, 3S; children. 111.
