FOREST FIRE

OUTBREAK AT WAIPORI Word was received in the city shortly after noon to-day that a lire was raging in the fir plantation adjacent to the dam site at Lake Mahincrangi, Waipori. Assistance was asked lor from the city, and about 30 men, some from the reticulation branch of the electricity department, together with a number collected by Mr M. 11. Ski’x>worth, superintendent of reserves, have been despatched to the. scene of the conflagration, the superintendent himself also accompanying the men. The city electrical engineer (Mr G. T. Edgar) stated that the outbreak was serious enough, the fire having a frontage of about half a mile, so he understood. Further details are not yet available.
