[Fnoa Qua Correspondent) PERSONAL. Mr J Thurlow, of Clinton, who leaves for camp with the next draft of men, was last week the recipient of a moneybelt from the Balclutha railway staff. Mr Thurlow is very well known in South Otai'o. For some years he was on tne Kaitangata-Balclutha service bus, and later filled a similar capacity on the Kaka Point-Balclutha bus, prior to ■joining the railway road service as bus driver He was very popular with all with whom he came in contact, and best wishes will accompany him in his new rental's WOMEN’S INSTITUTE. In the absence of the president (Mrs R Newson), Mrs J. Tweedie presided over this mouth’s meeting of the Batclntha Women’s Institute on luesday afternoon The motto was “ The kiss of the sun for pardon, the song of the birds for mirth; for you are nearer God s heart in a garden, than anywhere etse on earth.” . , The correspondence included an invitation to the Kaitangata Institute s birthday party, and a letter froni the Secretary of the Mokogai Leper Fund asking for donations. It was decided that members be asked to bring contributions to the latter fund to next raeetH During the social half-hour pianoforte solos were rendered by Mrs Baillie and vocal solos by Mrs D. Brown. . The roll-call was a “ gardening hint,” and suggestions for next halfIt was intimated that members of the Balclutha Institute were to be the hostesses at the half-yearly federation meeting on November 1. The points competitions resulted Best bloom: Mrs J. T. Sutherland 1, 2. and ft. Vase of- flowers: Mrs -I. Montgomery 1, Mrs Sutherland 2, Mrs

M'Diarmid 3. The display of blooms m these competitions was a very attractive one, there being a large number of entries. . Mrs Begg*gave an interesting demonstration on basket-work, and had eoui» very nice examples with her. The usual votes of thanks to the demonstrator, artists, and hostesses brought the meeting to a close.
