ASSOCIATION COMMITTEE MEETS The chair of the meeting of the committee of the Otago Cricket Association, held last night, was occupied by the president (Mr A. H. Allen;. GREETINGS TO CANTERBURY. The President informed the meeting that he had, on behalf of the association, sent greetings and good wishes to the Canterbury Association, which' was holding its meeting that evening.—The president's action was cordially appi’oved. PHYSICAL WELFARE, Messrs J. A. Robson and G. H. Martin were appointed to represent the association at a meeting called b.v the Dunedin District Physical Welfare and Recreation Committee for September 26 for the purpose of considering the question of the formation of a federation of sports bodies. COUNCIL’S ACTIVITIES. The New Zealand Cricket Council wrote asking for an expression of opinion regarding the desirability of the affiliated associations sending representatives to the annual meeting of the council, which is to be held on November 21. The council also asked for an opinion regarding the playing of Plunket Shield matches during the forthcoming season.—These matters were referred to the incoming committee. M. A. NOBLE FUND. A .popy of a circular letter received from “a committee in Sydney seeking subscriptions to a fund being raised for the assistance of the family of the late M. A. Noble, one of Australia’s finest sportsmen.—lt was resolved to write the New Zealand Council with a view to ascertaining what support, if any, was being given by the other centres, and inquiring concerning the means of remitting any money which might be collected. REPORT AND BALANCE SHEET. The Secretary submitted a draft of the annual report, and a copy of the balance sheet showed a profit on the year’s working of £7l 2s 3d, with an amount of £l5O 9s 4d for sundry debtors. —The President expressed the opinion that a very healthy position was revealed, particularly in view of the expenditure on the northern tour and on minor matches.

A report submitted on behalf of the Finance Committee by the chairman of the committee (Mr A., G. Valentine) showed that the endowment fund stood at £651 17s 9d. Contributions from clubs for the 1939-40 season totalled £135 10s, and special contributions came to £7 7s. There was still an amount of £32 10s owing by clubs; the committee considered that if this were paid and some further ground members’ fees collected, it should be possible to bring the account to the £7OO which was the committee’s aim. It was decided that the clubs whose contributions were in arrear should be communicated with and reminded that, until these contributions were paid, such clubs were not eligible to send delegates to the annual meeting, dr to enter teams in any of the grade competitions. ANNUAL MEETING. The date of the annual meeting was fixed for September 25. Notice of motion, in accordance with the recommendation of the last annual meeting, was given to make the necessary alteration to the rules so that life members of the association will have the privilege of voting at annual meetings. This resolution will be put to the next annual meeting. GROUNDS. Mr ,1. A. Robson, for the Grounds Committee, reported that, after a consultation with the superintendent of reserves, ho was able to say that, so far as grounds were concerned, there was every probability of a good season ahead.
