ORKNEY AND SHETLAND SOCIETY

Tho monthly social of the Orkney and Shetland Society was held in Unity Chambers on Saturday evening. The president (Mr A. B. Fraser) opened the social with a hearty welcome to all tho members and their friends, special mention being made of a cake donated to the society by one of the members on the occasion of his birthday, for distribution to all present. The evening was spent in dancing, interspersed with the following items; —Songs, accompanied by steel guitar, Mr Harvey Jamieson; banjo item, Messre Ditchfield and Campbell; songs, Mr William Stevenson, sen, ‘ Bonnie Prince Charlie ’ and ‘ The March of the Cameron Men ’; Mr Jack Parker, ‘ Lights of London * and ‘ Grandma Said.’ The winners of the Movie Walts ■were Mr and Mrs A. Caudwell. Mrs Neil Johnston played the accompaniments. Music was supplied by Messrs Fraser and Hargreaves, accompanied hv instruments already mentioned. The President thanked all the performers. also statinu that the society had with it Mr and Mrs Clement, two members from Christchurch. Mr G. K. Berwick acted as M.C. for tho evening, which was brought to a close by tho singing of ‘ Auld Lang Sync ’ and ‘ God Save the King.’-
