RUGBY MATCH FOR PATRIOTIC PURPOSES Permission was granted at last night’s meeting of the Management Committee of the Otago Rugby Football Union for a match to be played for patriotic purposes on September 21 between a Public Service team and a University side, it being reported that there seemed little likelihood of a visit from a Burnham Army team. The president (Mr D. C. Jolly) was in the chair. When the question of the visit of a Burnham team was mentioned, the secretary said that no further advice had been received from the military authorities, and Mr D. M. Spedding said _ he did not think there was any possibility of a team coming. The outbreak_ of measles would probably prevent it being sent. The secretary said that a deputation from the Public Service Football Committee had waited on him last week and it was anxious to get a definite date for a match for patriotic purposes. September 21 was the date proposed. The Chairman said that if the Burnham team did come it would be late in the season. Mr Spedding said it would not come on September 28 because if a match was played on that date by Burnham it would be against Trentham at Wellington. On the motion of Mr A. Grant, it was decided to grant the Public Service Committee September 21 for a match, it being loft to the Public Service Committee to allocate the proceeds to patriotic purposes. Permission was granted the University team to play a match against a Public Service team. MATCH AT KAITANGATA. There would be no prizes. FOURTH GRADE WINNERS, The Flag Committee reported that the fourth grade competition was now closed, Pirates F being declared the winners and Southern runners-up.
