RUGBY
OTAGO V. SOUTHLAND The return match between Otago and Southland for the Donald Stuart Memorial Shield will take place at Carisbrook to-morrow. The Southland team has an exceedingly fine record this year, in fact, it is considered to be one of the best sides that Southland has over had. Although Otago was defeated in the llanfurly Shield match on August 5, it has undoubtedly improved considerably since then. Provided that the weather holds, the ground should be in first-class order. Two curtain-raisers will be played. At noon the Otago fourth grade representatives will meet the South Otago third grade representatives, and at 1.30 the Otago and Southland referees’ teams will play for the Dewar Cup. The teams will include many prominent plavcrs who have not long retired. The public will no doubt be pleased to see in action again 11. G. Webb, the former Otago and University wing _ threequarter, who will be representing the Southland referees. Patrons are reminded that admission to the stand enclosure is by the Burns street entrance only. The box plan is now open at Messrs Charles Begg and Co., and will close to-morrow at 11 a.m. It is understood that four bands from Southland will be urcscnt, and the Kaikorai Band will also be m attendance. Ground tickets are obtainable at S. Jacobs’s and the Otago Sports Depot. SOUTHLAND TEAM The Southland Rugby selectors, Messrs L. 11. Lopdell and H. J. Brown, have selected the team to play Otago, after receiving advice that M. P. Grace. A. 0. Sutherland, 1). B. Herron, and W. G. Sherriff would not be released from tho All Black trials in Wellington. In addition A. W. Wesney and 11. if. Ward are not available. The team is as follows: Full-back: J. W. Fleming. Three-quarters: R. G Mahony, E. Calvert, K. A. Jackson. Five-eighths: C K Saxton. W G Stewart. Half-back: J. W. Purduo. Front row: V L George, J. Lester, C. Soper. Middle row: J P Newell, S. E. Purdue. A. Marshall. G. H. Graham. Back row: F. M'Ewan. Reserves: Forwards, A. West; backs. C. F. M'Kenzie. M'GLELLAND UNAVAILABLE Because of injuries W. M'Clellaml has withdrawn from the Otago team. His place on the side of the scrum will
be taken by L. Naylor (Alhambra), and J. Walker (Union) has been added to the list of emergencies.

As a curtain-raiser to the representative fixture a match will be played between teams representing the Southland and Otago referees. Mr N.
