ROAD FATALITY
CHARGE AGAINST TAXI OWNER [Per United Press Association.] ASHBURTON, September 28. Arising out of a fatality on the Main South road near Chertsey on the night of July 29, Hector William John M'Lean, a taxi owner, was charged with having negligently driven a car so as to cause the death of William Thomas Kidson. The evidence showed that rain and sleet fell during the journey from Christchurch, and when pulling out to overtake a car the taxi collided with the deceased’s motor cycle. The driver of _ a third car said the cyclist dipped his lights when meeting him. Witness heard a crash one and a-half to two chains' away. The accused pleaded not guilty, and was committed for trial, bail . in the sum of £IOO being allowed.
