SEEING DUNEDIN
SIX SUGGESTED TOURS ROSLYH RATEPAYERS’ ASSOCIATION’S SCHEME The formation of a series of observation motor tours round the hills of Dunedin was strongly advocated by the president of tho Roslyn and Kaikorai Ratepayers and Householders’ Association (Mr. P. L. Ritchie) at the annual meeting last night. For 15 years, said Mr Ritchie, the association had been closely watching the interests of these two hill districts. Now it was time, in his opinion, to take a broader outlook and commend to the City Council’s con-
sideration any worth-while suggestion like the commencement of these motor tours. Embodied in his suggestion, Mr Ritchie said, were two new works : —the completion of the gap at present existing between Campbell’s road in Pino Hill and the Brown House, and a new road across Signal Hill to connect with the council’s 10-acre park and the recently-completed road at that point. When these roads were completed, he added, Dunedin would have a series of hill observation round trips that would be second to none in the Dominion. Mr Ritchie then outlined six tours that could be made, and these,, he said, could easily bo extended. The tours are as follows :
Tour I. (North). —From Town; Hall to _ Roslyn, visiting Wakari, Ross Reservoif and the Leith Valley, proceeding via Patmos street towards Mount Cargill, and then taking the road on the right and returning by Pine Hill. -Tour 11. (South). —From Roslyn to Wakari and the Main South road to
tho airport, and ■returning via Mosgie! or continuing on to Brighton, and returning In- the Saddle Hill road. Tour 111. (East). —From Roslyn plong Highgato to Lookout Point, crossing to the at. Clair golf links road, then along Beach road past Tomahawk on to the hill road to HighclifF, returning by that road or going on to Portobello and returning by tho Harbour road. Tour IV. (West).—From Roslyn to Wakari, over the hill road to Wharc Flat, returning by Mosgiel. Tour V.—Same as tour I. as far as Pine Hill, then by Campbell’s road to the Brown House and Signal Hill road when these two connections are completed. k Tour Vl.—From Roslyn, the Queen’s Drive has a good motor road from end to end, and is full of changing scenes. After a short discussion it was decided that tho suggestion should be placed before the Otago Expansion League and the Dunedin Amenities Society in the hope that their support for the scheme could be obtained.
