[Faoa Oou Correspondent,! RUGBY FOOTBALL. The annual seven-a-side tournament of the South Tuapeka Sub-union was held at Beaumont on Saturday. Thirtyotic entries wore received, hut owing to transport difficulties the Taiori, Clinton, and Pioneer (Gore) Clubs had to withdraw their teams, and finally 23 teams competed. At the conclusion of the tournament the president, Mr A. W. Hellyer, presented the miniature silver cups to the Mataura juniors and the Waikoikoi seniors, and the silver medals to the Miller’s Flat schoolboys. GOLF. Tbo following are the leading scores in the Roxburgh Stahleford bogey matches for the Walter Strang Cup:— G. M'Donald, 32—34—66; L. Smith, 12—54—66; J. Pearson, 36—28 —64; J. Pauuett, 40 —10 —50; H. Tough, 20 —34—54. The second round of the Cadbury Fry Hudson Cup and the second qualifying round of the club’s championship will he played on Saturday next. EMERGENCY PRECAUTIONS, A very good response has been made to the questionnaire which was sent out last week in the Roxburgh district in order to ascertain the number of children who could be billeted should an emergency arise. Under the heading 1: How many children can you accommodate and give personal attention to? The number to hand is 160 children. No. 2: How many can you accommodate if household assistance is provided? Sixty-three children. No. 4: Have you made arrangements to accommodate relatives or friends, and, if so, how many? 227. This makes a total to date of 450. Many offers of help in other ways have been received also. The secretary, Mr Waigth, has received a letter from the Dunedin Emergency Precautions Committee which stated that it will not be necessary to make any use of halls, sheds, etc., as it was expected that billeting in private homes would he found for all the children. PERSONAL. Mr H. Hotting, headmaster at the Roxburgh District High School, has received notification of his transfer to Alexandra as rector of the Alexandra School. He leaves Roxburgh at the end of October. Lieutenant A. R. M'Kinlay, N.Z.S.C., after a month at the Army School of Instruction, Trentham, spent a short week-end at his home at Lawrence. He has been appointed adjutant, M.R., at Blenheim. Mrs Alan Stewart, of Pukeuri, and son, are guests of Mr and Mrs D. Davidson, Whenuakoa. LAWRENCE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH. The Lawrence Presbyterian Church celebrates next week-end its seventyfifth anniversary. The morning service and communion on Sunday will be taken by the Very Rev, H. H. Barton, M.A. (now of Weston), who will also assist at the evening service. MOUNTED RIFLES. Some 25 members of No. 3 Troop, B Squadron, Otago Mounted Rifles, went into camp at Lawrence during the weekend. Major Brook (Beaumont) and Captain Nicholson (Heriot) were in charge at different times, and Staff Sergeant-major M'Lenaghin, N.Z.P.S., was present to give instruction. A varied course of instruction was carried through. A special church parade was held on the Sunday morning. WAITAHUNA DRAMA CIRCLE. The first meeting of the newly-formed Drama Circle was held in the hall last Thursday afternoon. Mr Worthington was present, and discussed various plays with the members. Three were finally chosen, and a busy afternoon was spout in allotting parts to the cast.
