FAMOUS DANISH SWIMMER
GIRL CHAMPION'S SPEED AND JUDGMENT DUAL WIN IN ENGLAND There was more than met the eye ini Ragnhild Hveger’s dual success for; Denmark against England in the Empire Pool, Wembley, on August 19, says a London writer. Apart from beating two English title holders, Miss Hveger gave an exemplary display of pace, judgment, and racing tactics under two entirely different conditions. In tho 100 metres free style the sturdy Dana was led by Joyce Harrowby, but Miss Hveger did not allow the English girl's unexpected challenge to upset ‘ the rhythm of her stroke. She _ travelled smoothly on an even ikeel until the lasts 20 metres, when Miss Harrowby weakened slightly, while the Dane’ just carried on with her powerful stroke. ' But in the 100 metres back stroke the Danish flyer never took her eyes’off Vivian Bassett-Lowke from the start to finish. She was content to keep level until 20 metres from home, wheil the Dane accelerated just sufficiently to place her in a safe 'position. Miss Hveger has more attributes than, speed and stamina. She has a cool head and a calculating brain ready for any emergency. • -
