TALKS ON RUGBY.

TO THB EDITOR. Sir, —We have been, listening for some time to a series of talks from YA stations, entitled ‘ Is New Zealand Football Deteriorating?’ All the speakers have been Wellington men, or men from, other provinces domiciled in el " lington. We have two men jn Dunedin who are well qualified to pass an opinion on Rugby football in New Zealand, and also qualified to give us some helpful criticism in relation to the game as it is now played in New Zealand— namely, Messrs V. G. Cavanagh .and L. A. Giles, these two men having coaching results behind them that canont be bettered by any coach in the country. Not only in club tootball has their influence been felt, but it has extended also to one of the finest periods Otago football has known, and from there it goes on to the New Zealand teams. Mr Cavanagh was the coach responsible for D. 'frevathanks, H. Simon’s, R. Nepier’s, L. Niven s, H. Smith’s, and that fine forward G. M'Donald’s fine *play. Mr Giles has C. K. Saxton, J. Taybr, A. Parkhill, R. Mahoney. AV. Pernam, W. Campbell T Graham, and numerous other players who have learned their tootball under him. I feel sure a talk on the grand old game from these two outstanding coaches would he highly appreciated. This talk would h® enormous value to country players, who do not have the advantage of intensive coaching like their town cousins.—l am, etc., September 2/L Onlooker.
