WETHERS CHEAPER BY 1/6 SPRING LAMB RATES EASE FEW STORE CATTLE OFFERED Though the numbers of good fat cattle of all descriptions were smaller than usual, all grades remained firm on late rates at the Burnside stock sales to-day. Fat sheep, however, showed a recession in value amounting to Is 6d a head for wethers, while ewes were unchanged, at the opening of the auction, Boner cows were to £1 a head dearer. Spring lambs, of which about half a dozen were offered, brought decreased values, ranging from about 20s to 30s a head. Some bullocks of very good quality were penned in the yarding of about ■207 head of fat cattle, hut there were not as many as last week. The bulk were medium to light sorts. Cows and heifers were in slightly smaller numbers than usual. Throughout the sale prices for all grades were firm on late rates. Extra prime bullocks made to £23 7s 6d a head; prime heavy, from £l7 10s to £l9; medium, £l4 to £ls 10s; and light and medium descriptions, from £lO 7s 6d to. £l2 2s 6d'. Extra prime cows and heifers brought to £l4 17s 6d; prime heavy, from £ll 17s 6d to £l3 2s 6d; medium, from £9 7s 6d to £lO 17s 6d; and light and unfinished, £7 6s to £8 2s 6d). Mostly wethers wore offered in the smaller yarding of about 1,630 fat sheep, some being of fine quality, but the bulk were medium to light. Only a few ewes were forward, with a fair proportion of good descriptions, Prices were about Is 6di easier for wethers at the outset, while ewes were bringing late parity. It. was expected that the sale would continue on much the same basis. . Store cattle forward comprised about a dozen boner cows, which sold at 10s to £1 a head dearer than last week. Baeoners were in short supply in the fat pig yarding of about 119 head, and met with good competition at prices ranging from £4 to £5 18s a head, or about BJd lb. Porkers had a fair yarding, meeting with a good dtemand at, £2 15s to £3 10s a head, or about 9d lb. There were 80 stores forward.
