PARLIAMENTARY SESSION
MAY END THIS WEEK CONTENTIOUS POINTS FOR DEBATE [From Our Parliamentary Reporter.] WELLINGTON, September 27. Both sides of the House of Representatives appear to bo anxious to close tin session by tho end of this week, even if a sitting on Saturday is required to complete the Government legislative programme. Whether this can bo achieved is still uncertain, because the list of Bills is fairly heavy, and some of them contain a number of contentious points. Among these is the Land and Income Tax Amendment Bill, which aims at correcting the anomalies in the present law, and which is expected to make its appearance to-night. Jt is also likely that the ■ promised amendments to the Spcia! Security Act will bo introduced to-night. Other Bills yet to come down include the Reserve Bank Amendment Bill, and an amendment to the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Act, which will provide for the setting up of a separate court to deal with compensation cases. There will also be tho Second Finance Bill, which will be the “ washing-up ” measure, and the Primary Products Marketing Amendment Bill. The Fair Rents Amendment Bill, which covers flats and shops, has been sent to the Statutes Revision Committee, and is likely to arouse some controversy in the House. In addition, the Customs Act Amendment Bill, the War Expenses Bill, the Statutes Amendment Bill, the Rural Housing Bill, and the Pharmacy Bill have to be put through their remaining stages.
