LAST BODIES RECOVERED TURLEY HAD GIVEN LIFE IN RESCUE EFFORT [Per United Press Association.] AUCKLAND, September 26, The fire which was burning in th® Glen Afton coal mine has now been isolated and is under control. , This afternoon searchers recovered the bodies of Richard Ireland, aged;64. William Bell, aged 31, and Raymond Turley, aged 34, three of the 11 men. who were overcome by gas oh Sundaymorning. These three men had gone further into the mine than those whose bodies were found earlier. The search parties found umfii*takable signs that Turley had sacrificed his own life in an endeavour to save Bell. PARLIAMENT'S SYMPATHY [Per United Press Association.-] WELLINGTON, September 26. The Glen Afton mine tragedy waa the subject of a resolution earned when the House of Representatives met thu afternoon after the week-end recesa. The resolution was moved by the Acting Prime Minister (Mr Fraser) and seconded by the Leader of the Opposition (Mr Hamilton). The resolution is as follows: “ That this House deeply deplores th® tragic loss of life caused by the mining disaster at Glen Afton on September 24, and expresses its sincere sympathy with the bereaved widows and children in their great sorrow.” _ . . “ I move this resolution believing that the House is voicing the opinion of the people of the whole. Dominion in expressing its deep regret ahd extending its sincere sympathy,” Mr Fraser said. WELLINGTON, September 26., Assistance for the widows of the via* tims of the Glen Afton mine tragedy i* to be given by Glen Afton Collieries Ltd., according to advice received tonight by the Acting Prime Minister (Mr Fraser) from the Minister ,of Mines (Mr Webb). In addition, the Dominion Breweries will make a donation to each of the widows. * “ I am very pleased to advise yon , that Glen Afton Collieries Ltd. has undertaken to meet the whole of the funeral expenses of the victims of the recent disaster, and in addition th# company is arranging to pay 'ln# widows full wages for the next three months,” Mr Webb said in a telegram to Mr Fraser. “I am also ipleasedto inform you that Mr H. J. Kelhher and Mr L. J. Stevens, representing the Dominion Breweries Ltd., have announced . that their firm will give a cheque of £2O to each of the widows to meet the immediate financial needs of their families.” - . , FIRST DAY SUBSCRIPTIONS £l5O ■ [Per United Press Association.] ■ AUCKLAND. September 26. A subscription list was opened by-the Mayor of Auckland (Sir Ernest Davis) to-day in aid of the dependents of the men who lost their lives in the Glen Afton tragedy.
