STRAND
Unusually good drama of a light nature is provided in ‘ The Road to Reno,’ which, with ‘ Mystery Plane,’ is at present being shown at the Strand. Hope Hampton, famous opera star, and Randolph Scott and Glenda Farrell head the strong cast, and th© action is as
varied as the backgrounds, which range from majestic mountains to hectic night clubs. Of course, the theme of the story is divorce. Tailspin Tommy, hero of tlie newspaper strip serials, makes his motion picture debut in ‘ Mystery Plane,’ which is full of thrilling action. SMUGGLERS AND MYSTERY, How “ T-men ” work overtime to plug leaks in the United States Customs lines is depicted for the first time in ‘ Society Smugglers,’ Universal drama, which will be screened at the Strand on Friday, Preston Foster, Irene Hervcy, and Regis Toomcy portray Department of Treasury under-cover operatives in the film. Fred Keating, Walter Woolf King, and others act as their outside-the-Taw opponents. Use of latest scientific equipment and methods of detection to combat niillion-dollar smuggling rackets are exposed in ‘ Society Smugglers.’ Extensive research into criminal records and Government files of actual smuggling cases preceded filming of the drama. Patrick J. Kelly, who has tc butler’s role in Universal’s uproarious ghost-mystery picture, ‘ The Missing Guest,’ which will be in support, with Paul Kelly, William Lundigan, and Constance Moore featured, is more than a good 'butler. His stage history dates back to 1904, when ho helped to establish the Irish National Theatre. Humour and horror are blended to make this film.
