[From Our Oamaro Correspondent.] HIGH SCHOOL HARRIERS, The annual cross-country runs of the Wuitaki Boys’ High School were held in fine weather. The senior course ran from Waitaki Avenue, along the North road to the racecourse, circuited the racecourse, and went by road to the foreshore, and thence to the school. The junior course omitted the circuit of the racecourse. The distance for seniors was five and a-qua-rter miles and for the juniors two and three'quarter miles. Results:— Seniors. —Fastest times: D. The weekly sitting of the Oamaru Magistrate’s "Court 'commenced yesterday before Mr H. W. Bundle, S.M. Gordon M'Kenzie Forbes was fined 5s and costs (10s) for driving without a license, 10s and costs (10s) for driving without a warrant of fitness, and 20s for fighting with Patrick Roy Mansell in Severn street.
Joseph Edgar Ewing was fined 10s and costs (12s) for driving a tractor without a heavy traffic license and 5s and costs (10s)‘ for operating an unlicensed tractor. CENTENNIAL MEMORIAL.
At a meeting of the North Otago Early Settlers’ Association yesterday the mayor (Mr K. Familton) reported that almost £2,000 was now in tight from voluntary contributions for the North Otago centennial memorial rest room and pioneers’ hall, and this, with the local body and Government grants, would bring the total to £5.000. The membership of the Early Settlers’ Association has reached 160. After the meeting items were contributed by Mr and Mrs G. Drummond, Mrs K." Familton, and Miss Lorraine Hart. TREE PLANTING. The following officers were elected at the annual meeting of the North Otago Tree Planting Association:—President, Mr A. N. Hayes; vice-presidents, Messrs F. Milner and J. Rodman: secretary. Mr A. W. Woodward; auditor. Mr J. Branthwaite; committee as last year, with the addition of Messrs M. W. Austin and R. K. Gardiner. Tributes were paid to Mr Gardiner for his work as honorary secretary. It was decided to start tree planting and fencing at Lake Waitaki to-morrow and at the south end of Waitaki bridge on Saturday. MINIATURE RIFLES. Pukeuri Club.—N. M'Latchie 80, H. Hughes 79. J. It was decided to enter for the Brownlie Shield contest. Sister Davey reported on the visit of Loyal Ngapara Lodge, and an invitation was received from Loyal Albion Lodge. GOVERNMENT HOUSING. Advice has been received by the Oamaru Borough Council that the Government Housing Department does not intend at present to have the housing blocks in Farnham. Pembroke, and Harlech streets brought into the borough.
