FIRE AT WAIWERA

* HOT SPRINGS HOTEL DESTROYED fPBR United Press Association.] AUCKLAND, September 27. A north coast landmark, the Hot Springs Hotel at Waiwera, a large twostoried wooden structure, was destroyed by lire shortly after midnight. The alarm was given by a neighbour, Mr 11. Darling, who roused the staff on the ground floor and attempted to warn two guests on the upper floor, but was driven back by the heat' and smoke. Both guests, however, had been awakened by the roar of the Haines, and descended by the fire escape. The building was soon ablaze from end to end, and, through the absence of water, the onlookers had to stand idly by. Only a few personal belongings were salvaged from the building. The licensee, Mr Connell, was away from Waiwera at the time. The glare of the fire was visible at Auckland, HO miles away.
