RETURNED SOLDIERS ' AFFAIRS
MEETING OF EXECUTIVE The Executive Committee of the Returned Soldiers’ Association met last night, the president (Mr J. M. White) occupying the chair. DEATH OF MEMBER. The loss of a well-known member of the association was reported by the Chairman, who stated that Mr O. L. Holden had passed away suddenly that morning. Mr Holden had been continuously a member since his return from active service. He had been a frequent visitor to the club, and had served it faithfully in many ways, having been a foundation' member of the choir, a member of tho Rifle Club, and the Billiards Committee, and had on numerous occasions undertaken journeys into tho country to assist with tho entertainment at reunions. A motion of sympathy with the relatives was carried in silence, MEMBERSHIP. Two transfers inwards were approved. The figures in the membership contest at September 15 were reported to be: Christchurch 2,670, Dunedin 2,118. EX-SERVICEMEN’S REGISTER. The opening of a register by returned soldiers’ associations for ex-servicemen unfit for active service or over 55 years of age was recommended in a circular from headquarters. The Chairman said there had been so many forms to fill in that he was of the opinion that they should not ask their members to do any more until further information was made available. Mr Forrester said many men were willing to give tbeir services, but, before making any offer, they wanted to know what they would he expected to do. It was decided to take no action until further information on the scheme had been obtained.
