Mr H. Archibald was a passenger by the thorugh express to-day on his way to Wellington. Hon. F. Waite, M.L.C., and Messrs John Dunlop (Seaward Downs) and W. D, Palmer (Invercargill) left by the express to-day on their way to Wellington to attend the annual meeting of the New Zealand Cool Store Association, Messrs Frank Anderson (manager)' and J. J. Hall travelled by the through express to-day to Christchurch with the Otago team which is to compete in the New Zealand amateur wrestling championships, beginning to-morrow. The team comprises E. Swain, R. Tourrell, A. Idour, and L. Hastie. Mr J. Hoy, who has been on a visit to Dunedin,* left on his return to Wellington to-day. Messrs A. S. Holmes (Waimahaka)' and James Begg left to-day for Wellington to attend a meeting of the Meat Board. Mr H. Turner was a passenger by the through express pn his way to Wellington. The mayor (Mr A. H. Allen), Cr J.Wilson, and Mr W. A. Scott have been appointed City Council representatives on the Committee of Management of the Otago Museum. A British Official Wireless message from Rugby states that Lord Perry has been appointed business 'adviser to the Ministry of Food. During the Great War Lord Perry was Director of Agricultural Machinery in the Division'of Food Production Department. It was this division that acquired and operated the large.fleet of agricultural tractors which playedsuch an important part in ploughing up in 1917-1918. Later he became, DeiputyController of the Mechanical Warfare Department and Director of Traction in the Ministry of Munitions. At the annual meeting of the Carisbroolc Cricket Club last evening, the president (Mr Crosby Morris) referred to the death of Mr C. W. Rattray, who had been one of the original members of the club, and a first class player. The members present expressed their sympathy in the customary manner. ' An Association telegram from Wellington states that Mr Paul Falla, son of Mr N. S. Falla, and a member of the staff of the British Embassy at Warsaw until the Ambassador’s withdrawal, is being transferred to Ankara. Dr John Fulton, president of the Otago Lawn Tennis Association, who will leave to-morrow for the military camp at Burnham, was met yesterday by the executive of the association and presented with a fountain pen. Messrs A. M'Millan and R. Phillipps, on behalf of the association, wished him success, and Mr E. L. Hope spoke on behalf of the Dunedin Lawn Tennis Union.
Mr David H. Graham, F.R.M.5.,F.Z.S., of Christchurch,- has been ..appointed by the Government to carry out an investigation into the cockroach pest, which has-been causing great concern at tourist resorts in the North Island. Mr Graham has conducted many research undertakings in New Zealand, one of his most successful being that into the control of mosquitoes in the Auckland district. Mr W. J. Shanley has resigned "from the Ministerial secretarial corps to accept an administrative position at the Royal Air Force station at Wigram. He' was private secretary to the Minister of Housing (Mr Armstrong), and officers of the Housing and Labour Departments met in the Minister’s office in Parliament Buildings to say. “ Au revoir ” to him. Mr Shanley has been interested in aviation for several years. Guests at the Grand Hotel are Mr A. J. Hyder, Mr H. O. Thornton, Mr R. Dossor (Wellington). Mr F. L. Grant, Mr V. J. M'Kibbin (Christchurch), Mrs J. M'Queen, Miss M'Queen (Invercargill), Mr E. C. Govan (Te Anau). Among the guests at the City Hotel are Mr J. B. Jefferson, Mr E. G. Bloxam (Auckland), Mr J. B. Wilson, Mr B. A. Sandson, Mr C. M. Adams (Christchurch), Mr C. Bazar (Heathcote), Mr James Ritchie (Gore). Staying at Wain’s Hotel are Mr Warwrick Ladd, Mrs George W. Baildon (Auckland). Mr J. J. Busch, Mr James S. Cane (Palmerston North), Mr H. Nunnerley, Mr H. C. W. Preston. Air A. C. MacLanghlan (Christchurch).
