THE SPECIAL FORCE
OFFICERS AND N.G.O.S FDR BURNHAM [Per United Press Association.] AUCKLAND, September 25. Strongly reminiscent of such commoner occasions in the Great War was the scene at the Auckland railway station to-night, when, in khaki and mufti, 48 officers and non-commissioned officers entrained for Burnham and the first part of their training as members of the special military force being raised by the Government. During the day smaller counterparts of the same scene took place at Hamilton. Whangarei, and Paeroa, where the combined strength of the party sent from the northern military district was brought up to 70. With the Aucklanders, they will join other detachments from the southern military areas when they reach Burnham. WELLINGTON, September 25. The Wellington recruiting figures for the special force to-night were:—Registered, 1,733; examined, 1,679; fit, 888; temporarily unfit, 519; permanently unfit, 242. *
