[From Oub Oamaru Correspondent.] WAITAKI POWER BOARD. That the board wholeheartedly supports the Government in all its war measureSj and assures the Government of its fullest support in the prosecution of the war, was a resolution passed by the Waitaki Power Board yesterday. The engineer (Mr 'I. Dalmer) was instructed to- confer with Mr J. C. Kirkness regarding complaints from certain residents of a shortage of water at peak periods. 1 ■ It was agreed to pay the superannuation contributions of employees who enlist. : The secretary (Mr C. F. Jones) reported that appliances installed on terms in August were valued at £971, as-against £392 in August last year, and trading business for the. five months ended August 31 totalled £7,684 (£5,714); sales of electricity in August £3.805 (£3,526). . The engineer (Mr I. Dalmer) reported that 15 ranges, 14 water heaters, and 13 motors were installed and 18 new consumers joined up during August. A total of £1,418,173 units were used, as . against 1,221,495 in August, 1938. VOLUNTARY AID. , 4f ■ Last*evening a meeting of St. John Ambulance Association and Red Cross Society was held to discuss the training of V.A.D’s. Miss Marwick was appointed to represent the St. John Ambulance Association, and Mrs Smith Morton to represent the Red Cross Society to act with the hospital officials for the local advisory council. TREE PLANTING. The annual meeting of the North Otago Tree Planting Association was held last evening. It was reported that the trees planted on the reserve between Hilderthorpe; and • the Waitaki bridge were doing well. The golf club had been given 200 poplars, which had been planted on the links. Trees have also been planted at the Presbyterian young men’s camp at Herbert. Areas at Lake Waitaki bad been selected for planting. ACCIDENTS. i A car driven by George Plant, of Airedale, collided with a car driven by Sylvester John Howard, of Windsor, in Severn street, Oamaru, on Friday nivht. A James M'Farlane, suffered minor injuries. Two boys, Gordon Amies and Brian . Mulcahv, were “ double-banking ” on a bicycle in Thames street ■ when they collided with a stationary car and fell heavily. Both were admitted to hospital." with head iniuries. They are progressing favourably. While playing for Old Boys in the junior Rugby final on Saturday, Keith Falloon broke his right leg and was admitted to hospital. Pipe Band. The membership comprised a pipe-major, nine pipers, and eight drummers. Attendances have been good and progress satisfactory.
