CRICKET
UNIVERSITY CLUB The tenth annual meeting of the Otago University Cricket Club was held in the Students’ Union canteen on Friday night. The attendance of between 40 and 50 members and supporters was a pleasing augury for a successful and enthusiastic season. Dr A. R. Andrew (president) occupied the chair. The annual report was presented on behalf of the committee, and the Chairman moved its adoption, which was carried. Mr C. D. G. Toomey (treasurer) moved the adoption of the financial statement, which was also adopted. The election of officers resulted: — Patron, Mr W. J. Morrell; president, Dr A. R. Andrew; vice-presidents—Sir James Allen, Messrs J. A. Hanan W. J. Strong, W. F. Watters, W. G. Robertson, J. M. Paterson, F. H. Campbell, C. L. Carter, W. S. Armitage, H. Harvey, and F. M. Hanan, Professor T. D. Adams, Dr J. Fitzgerald, Dr D. W. Carmalt-Jones, Dr R. J. T. Bell, Dr O. North, Dr S. Moore, Dr W. P. Gowland, Dr E. N. Merrington, and Dr K. F. M. Uttley; club captain, Mr 1. Dunn; deputy club captain, Mr C. D. G. Toomey; secretary and treasurer, Mr D. A. Morrison; committee —Messrs Begg, Clark, and Christie; delegates to O.C.A.—Mesrs W. S. Armitage, H. Harvey and A. N.- Lawson; delegate to New Zealand University Cricket Council, Mr R. L. A. Gresswell. Considerable discussion took place on the question of finance, and it was finally decided that Messrs Lawson, Toomey, and Dunn be appointed a subcommittee to discuss the matter with the O.U.S.A. executive at its next meeting. The official opening was fixed for the first Saturday in October. _v During the meeting a motion of thanks to Dr D. W. Carmalt Jones for his services as a vice-president over a number of years was carried unanimously, and best wishes were expressed for him in his approaching retirement.
MORNINGTON TRAMWAYS Mr C. Foley presided at the annual meeting of the Mornington Tramways Club, at which there was a good attendance of members. The Chairman referred to the pleasant and successful season experienced last year, and to the highly satisfactory state of the finances. He moved the adoption of the annual report and balance -sheet, and the'motion was carried. A new set of rules governing the club’s activities were adopted, and the following office-bearers were elected : President, Mr A. Webster: vice-presi-dents —Messrs W. J. C. Wilson, C. Foley, G. A. Wycherley, R. Poulter, H. Weir, J. Coombs, and W. G. Pickard; committee —Messrs E. Black. H. Wyatt, A. M'Dermott, H. Parsons, and J. Fraser; captain, Mr J. Hollander; vicecaptain, Mr W. Stiglish; Selection Committee—the president, captain, and vice-captain; hon. secretary, Mr R. Otway. It was resolved that a letter of appreciation be sent to Mr E. Black for the valuable assistance he had rendered the club during the past season; and that a minute be recorded expressing the thanks of the dub to the secretary (Mr R. Otway) for the able manner in which he had carried out his duties. It was decided that; Only members of the Mornington staff and s - men for Mornington be eligible to play in the shield match between that st:and the City tramway staff, and that only members duly elected by the committee be permitted to play in any match. Three new members were elected, and the opening day was fixed or October 14. ______
