GOLD RUSH IN CHINA
HEW ZEALANDER’S ACTIVITY Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright NEW YORK, September 23. The Chungking correspondent of the ‘ New York Times ’ says that, returning from North-west Szechuan, in the vicinity of Sungpan, North-west China, Air Rewi Alley, New Zealand technical adviser to the Chinese Industrial Cooperatives, described scenes similar to the Klondike rush. He said that the quantity of gold in the hills and streams is enormous. Mr Alley is organising the pacification of fierce tribesmen, whose hostility hitherto has prevented exploitation of the arqa. Thousands are flocking to the district and boom towns are springing up overnight.
