THE BOWLINE KNOT

The value of any knot depends upon Its holding firm and at the same time being readily undone, no matter how tightly It has been drawn. The bowline knot will not slip though subjected to the severest strain, and It may easily be let loose however much It has been tightened. To make this knot, loop in the

cord as shown m Fig. I, and hold It In the left hand. The end "A" of the cord Is then passed by the right hand through this loop as In Pig. 2. This end “A” Is led around “B” and passed through the loop as In Pig. 3. After pulling the parts tight you will have a knot that Is perfectly secure.
