- MONTHLY MEETING r Tlie 1 -monthly meeting of the committee of the Otago A. and! P. Society vrai held on Thursday afternoon, and was attended by Messrs J. M. Fraser (in. the chair)! 1 J. Mitchell,- James Beeg,'”W; S. Thomson, S. P. Canieroh, John Hellyer, H. Turner, 11, T. Kirk, G.’ M---Bruce, R. Gawn, J. B. Blair, John Young, D. Ireland, John Allisort, D.. M. Reid, W. Lee, J. E. Brunton, K. Clark, E. M, North, and J. N. Murdoch. ’ The Chairman referred to the death of ■Mf D. Murray, a valued member of-the society, and members stood in silence- as a token of respect to his memory. A hearty welcome was extended to Mr BL ,Turner, an honorary life member 1 of the society, who gave an interesting review, of New Zealand produce on the Home market and the factors likely to have, a bearing on the Quantities of our produce absorbed by this market in the future. ■■ Messrs ‘Atkinson and Sons (Micldlojparch) .were elected members of the society. SUB-COMMITTEE REPORTS. The Finance Committee reported that accounts amounting to £207 16s lid bad been submitted for approval and re-
commended that these be passed for payment.—-Agreed'to. It was noted that the bank balance was £877 16s-lid in credit, outstanding cheques amounting to £35 17s Bd. Sub-committees for the year 1939-41) as submitted by the president were approved, and it was decided that Messrs Bruce and- Cameron be authorised to sign the society's cheques. It; was decided to offer the Brydonc and, Agricultural Halls to Messrs Dalg*ty and Co. and Stronach. Morris, and Co; respectively for the wool season on the same tern’s as last year. 4 As it was often not possible for the president to attend the meetings of the: Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, the secretary was nominated as tho society’s representative Mr S. the procession would therefore bo abandoned in the meantime.—Approved, The Secretary reported that at an executive meeting of the Otago Farm Competitions held on Monday last it had been decided to cancel all farm competitions for this year. The unfavourable season, petrol restrictions, and the, uncertainty of pepartmeht of Agriculture judges being available owing to orders to be ready for special duty all had a bearing on this decision. —Approved. After some discussion it was agreed that the Summer Show should be held as usual, and Judges were nominated for the various sections. Several alterations wore made to the' classes in the light horse sections, and it was decided that the brush jumps bo made 4ft Sin high. A double figure of eight races was added to the afternoon programme in place of a high jump, and the completion of the programme for the night carnivals was left to the Light Horse Committee. Trotter, and various breed societies. , Before the meeting closed the president (Mr J. M. Fraser), replying to a motion welcoming him back to the committee, gave an interesting account of bis trip abroad, and especially bis visit to the royal and other shows in’ England and Scotland, and he gave descriptions of-competitions and novel items that might be introduced at our own shows.
