ANGLER’S ASSOCIATION

ANNUAL MEETING Moving the adoption of the report and balance sheet of the Otago Anglers’ Association at the annual meeting on Thursday night, the president (Mr J. Spiro) referred to the suggestion that the Government intended taking over the control of shooting and fishing in New Zealand. The meeting registered a strong protest against this measure coming into force, and it was decided to convey its views to the Otago Acclimatisation Society. 'Hie balance sheet showed a satisfactory credit balance, in spite of an extensive series of free lectures, which were held during the season. A lew minor alterations were

made to the existing rules, and competitions were finalised for the new season. The meeting agreed with the proposal that Mr H. G. Williams should be elected president for the diamond jubilee season 1940-41, as he was the oldest life member of the association and a keen enthusiast over a long period. The election of officers resulted; — President, Mr S. Raffills; immediate past president, Mr J. Spiro; vice-presi-dents, Messrs D. Hunter and C. Kenward ; joint secretaries, Messrs R, Wilson and R. Joyce; treasurer, Mr W Brailey; auditor, Mr C. A. Wilson; committee—Messrs S. Medder, W. Young, H. Millow, I. Hoddiug, if. Horder, A. Mitchell, R. Joyce, L. Griffiths, J. Chapman, and J. Jackson. That sports bodies are already feeling the effect of their members enlisting is shown in a letter received from the Oamarn Angling Club stating that no competitions would be held this season, and that a meeting of its members would be held shortly to consider disbanding the club. The Oamaru organisation has decided also to hand back the Interclub Cup, which was to be competed for annually. This cup will now he offered to the Mosgiel Club for competition between it and the Otago Club.
