M’Crea, hon. secretary N.Z.C.A., for the following information: — The quarterly meeting of the council, usually held ill! September, is being deferred until the middle of October. This is to give the Art Union Committee time to wash up art. union affairs and report to the coun-. cil. The art union closes on September 26, and we hope every effort will be made to make it a success. Another reason for. postponing the council meeting is that by the middle of October we may see a little clearer through the war murk. Clubs should express their views as to the desirability of carrying out the congress as planned with four tournaments or to carry out a congress on usual lines with two tournaments. In certain circumstances the question may arise as to whether we should hold a congress this year, but so far there is no question of abandoning any fixtures. F.udre Steiner’s permit to settle in New Zealand was issued some weeks ago, but several difficulties cropped up subsequently. Wc had straightened out everything when the outbreak of war altered the whole outlook. The New Zealand Government has discontinued issuing permits for any more European refugees to enter the Dominion meantime.
