THE SPECIAL FORCE
REGISTRATIDNS FALLING GFF VACANCIES IN FIRST HAFT Registrations in the special military force for service at home or overseas appear to be diminishing and only 11 were received for the whole of yesterday. This brought the total up to 687 last night for Area 11 and there is still a considerable amount of work to be done in classifying them in accordance with the medical gradings, as this must be completed before selections can be made from the men available for the various drafts. In addition the registrations are classified by trades with the object of, as far as possible, placing men in the positions for which they are most suited.
Selections are at present being made for inclusion in the first draft to be sent to the mobilisation camp and a number of vacancies still exist for lorry and truck drivers, and motor mechanics. as well as various tradesmen. The registrations are classified under the following headings:—No. 1 group (officers on the reserve or active list), Group No. la (retired or cX-officers), Group No. 2 (single men\ Group No. 3 (married men without children), and Group No. 4 (married men with children). Registrations received yesterday were:— —Group 2. Henry Elijah Strnthers, (Ben Nevis, Bannockburn), Watson Thompson (Lindis Pass). —Group 3. Henry Kirk Ashton (Macrae’s Flat). —Oamaru.— —Group 2 ; — Herbert Kitchener Welsh.
