Mr G. A. Maddison, Mayor of Hastings, who was to have been one of tho New Zealand Rugby Union’s representatives at the Imperial Rugby Conference in England, has been advised that the conference hatf been cancelled. ■ . .
At its quarterly meeting last night the School Committees’ Association or Otago carried a resolution congratulating Mr James Wallace on his having served 21 years as chairman of the Otago Education Board, and expressing appreciation of the action of the authorities in having perpetuated his memory by naming the assembly hall of the new Training College after Reference to the deaths of Messrs C P M. Butterworth and F. Kesteven was made by Mr T. F. .Mackie, president'of the Otago Rowing Association, at the annual meeting last night. Mr Butterworth was an ex-president of The Otago Association and the Utago jxqw~ inn Club, while Mr Kesteven was, said Mr W. Dilson, the “ father of rowing in Canterbury,” and had on several occasions been president of tne N.Z.A.R.A. . ~ , - „ A Press Association cable from .London reports that a viscountcy has been conferred on Lord Maugham on his retirement from the office of Lord High to the Grand Hotel include Mr G, F. Martin as chairman and managing director of the firm in succession to'the late Sir William Hunt. Mr Martin has been a director of Wngbt. Stephenson for 26 years. Mr R. D.
