PROFESSIONAL CONTEST ARRANGED

The Otago Boxing Association haa decided to carry on. its activities as i far as is (possible under present conditions, and at a meeting held during'the week arrangements were completed for the next professional contest which, is to.b# held on Saturday, October 7, the contestants being Mayne' Morton, _ of Petone, and Billy Pams, of Wellxngton. ■ , . Parris has established himself as on# of the most popular boxers to appear in Dunedin, and his non-stop, aggressive style makes him one of-the greatest crowd-pleasers in the game to-day, Morton is not unknown in‘Dunedih either. He has not, appeared here as a professional, but in his amateur days gave some good displays here when'he was under the charge of Mr J. F. Morris, who laid the foundations fop the success Morton has since achieved. Morton and Parris have met already this season, their boutat Petone-result-ing in a draw. Morton reckons he i# entitled to another shot at Parris, who is just as firmly convinced that he can [prove himself the better man, the prospects are for an. excellent mill. _ A good amateur programme is bemg arranged, and among those who i will take part is the Southlander, Calder. who was runner-up in the New Zealand light-weight championship last week. The most promising amateur in Otago at the present time' is Larry Salmon, who in the bantam-weight division at the New Zealand championships fulfilled all the promise he -showed when, as a boy attending the Christian Brothers’ High School he was looked upon as one of the cleverest boxers. in Otago.; At Invercargill Salmon, in his first mill, defeated Maddern, who sube©quently won. the fly-weight title, and, though defeated in his next light bv Foote, Salmon had. the satisfaction •of ; knowing that his conqueror was the ■ eventual winner of the title. Salmon, will also be -appearing in one of the amateur preliminaries' -to - the ParrisMorton contest,'
