GOLF NOTES

Otago Club. Two popular members of the club fought out the final of the Haggitt Cup knock-out during the week-end, both playing brilliant golf for Davies to win from Lemon at the twentysecond. Both play off three, and lived up to their reputation of producing the shots when the pressure was on. Out-driving Lemon Davies had the advantage, but the former’s steadiness and accuracy produced excellent golf. Last Saturday, under perfect.conditions, the teams match, consisting ot four a side, was played for trophies presented by Mr G. H. Whitcombe. A large entry was received, and under the conditions the scoring of the lowhandicap players was very poor. Once again A. Gibbs proved ms worth in carding the best gross score of 71. Week, after week this player has proved that in medal play he can hold his own with anyone in New ZeaA Universitv player, Gordon Campbell, burnt up" the course with an 80— 18=-62 netr This, no doubt, will be noted by the handicapper. Chisholm Park Club. The final of the senior championship was played under perfect golfing conditions, and once again G. Bums proved his worth by winning from D. Sime, 5 and 4, Both played excellent golf, but Burns had the advantage on the greens, thus making a good, match rather one-sided. Congratulations to both in reaching the final. i St. Clair Golf Club. With perfect weather conditions last Saturday there was a large entry for the single bogey competition. The winner of the senior section, C. JL Wight (all square) returned the best card of the day. He has figured prominently in the last three or four club events, and is at present playing excellent golf. Another prominent club member, W. N. Satterthwaite (t down) filled second place, followed by D.- C. Bennie and A. G. Forbes (~ B section, H. G. Chapman (1 down) had an easy win from the rest of the field. This player has a sound style, and more will be heard of him in future events. The next best cards, were H. W. Holstenholm and A. P Monteath (3 down).. - The qualifying rounds for the club championships will be played, this week-end, and with the course in excellent condition and given reasonable weather some good scores are expected. For the senior section the first eight .qualify, and for the intermediate and junior sections the first 16 players. A. ,B. Watt, after an extended absence, has entered for the club championships. , m . Oh vacation from Auckland, W. A. Richardson, an ex-member of the cluu, had a game last week-end. Port Chalmers Club. R E. Hayward, who always plays consistently, led the field with a gross score of 73 last Saturday, when the first qualifying round of the championships of the Port Chalmers Golf Club was played. He was followed by F. Hunt with 76, F. Roberts 77, H. W. Scott 79, G. Groves 85, P. Jobhn 86, J. Palmer 87, C. Osborn Bt, R\rnott. 88, Q. Ellis 88, J. Andrews 88, L. Lindsay 89, D. Forsyth 92, S. Jack 93, A. L. Hunter 93. L. Oliver 93. The second round will be held next Saturday, when it will be ascertained who will qualify for the senior and junior sections of this competition.
