DUNEDIN DEFENCE RIFLE CLUB

ANNUAL MEETING At the fifty-first annual meeting of ■the Dunedin Defence Rifle Clubj held on Wednesday evening, the passing of a past president and hie member, Captain G. O. Proudfoot, was suitably recognised. President W. Bannerman referred to the long period of service and support given by Captain Proudfoot, and mentioned that he had been one of the longest surviving members, having joined the club in the ’nineties. The annual report and balance sheet were adopted. The following officers were elected: — Honorary president. Mr H. J. Shaw; honorary vice-presidents—-Messrs R. C. B. Greeuslade, A. Bain, H. A. Edmonds, and W. H. Donaldson; president, Mr W. Bannerman; deputy president, Mr J. T. Gillan; honorary secretary and treasurer, Mr R. M'Keich; General Committee—Messrs A. J. S. Cowic, K.

A. Mackie, O. G. Miller, J. Armstrong, and J, L. Benfell; Shooting Committee —Messrs A. J. S. Cowio, O. G. Miller. H. Potter, A. G. Parker, G. H. Smith, C. J. Gamble, A. W. Cooper, and J. L. Benfell; storekeeper, Mr A. G. Parker; range officer, Mr 11. Leslie, sen. The retiring secretary was accorded

a vote of thanks for his services during the past 10 years. A notice mas received from the Defence Department advising that ammunition ou free issue only mould bo supplied in the meantime. This meant that the incoming season mould bo considerably shortened..

A smoke concert mill be held on October 7, to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of the formation of the club. As a considerable amount of work had to be done oh the range, the open- ' ing date mas left to the decision of the committee.
