(Received September 21, at 1.30 p.m.) Details of the increased taxation for unemployment relief and social services were announced by the Treasurer (Mr Richardson) in the Legislative Assembly. The new rates operate from October 1, and will bring the total taxation in this financial year for unemployment relief to £8,442,000. The amounts payable will be substantially increased for every class of wage earner. .Single persons formerly exempt on wages not exceeding £3 must now nay the tax if they earn £2 or more. In addition to the increases in the wages tax the Government proposes to increase the income tax, com? pany tax, and probate tax.
