JPjboif Ouk Correspondent.^ PERSONAL. Ur Norman Axthux, who has been on the railway Toad transport staff at Baxclutha since its inception, has been transferred to Dunedin. Mr Arthur has taken a teen interest in sport, especially Rugby, being one of the second grade which won the banner and cup this season. He also played! for the Clntha Cricket Club. , After 30 years’ residence at Lovells Flat as a member of the railway maintenance staff, Mr G. W. Murray has been transferred to Ashburton on promotion. During his long .residence m the district, Mr Murray has played a prominent part in the affairs of the community. There was a large attendance at the farewell function tendered the family. Mr J. P. Oliver presided, and the function took the form of a dance interspersed with items contributed by Miss O. Lowery (recitations), Mrs Kerr and Mrs Murray (vocal duets), Mr W. H. Landreth (solos), Mra F. S. Adams (solos), and Mr Jack Murray (solos. The accompanists were Mrs Carrutbers and Misses J. Murray and M. Landreth, while the music for the dance was supplied by Miss Crawford and Messrs Cross and Crawford. During the course of the evening Mrs Jasper Clark presented Mrs Murray with a tea wagon, Mr Murray with a travelling rug, and Miss Jean Murray with a toilet set. Tributes were paid by Mrs Clark to Mrs Murray, while Mr N.''Steel; spoke on behalf of the church, remarking that Mr Murray had been a Sunday school teacher for 25 years (15 superintendent) had conducted Bible class for 21 years, was an elder, lay. preacher, and heldl the position of district secretary of the South Otago Bible classes. Mrs Murray had also done good work, while Miss Jean had been organist and choir member. Mr J. P. Oliver, chairman of the school ■ committee, referred to Mr Murray’s work as secretary, and presented him with an inscribed fountain pen. Mr \Y. Todd spoke on behalf of the railway staff, and Mr K. Clark on behalf of the hall committee. SUDDEN DEATH. . An inquest was held yesterday morning before Mr A. E. Russell, district coroner, into the circumstances surrounding the death of Thomas Owen Hughes, 52 years of age, who died suddenly at the residence. of Mr Angus Shaw, Waiwera South, where he was spending a holiday. A verdict was returned that death was due to natural causes. MINIATURE RIFLE SHOOTING. The weekly shoot of the Balclutha Miniature Rifle Club was held last night, when there was again some excellent shooting.' The club championships were decided, the winners being: —A grade, N. Rutherford: B grade, N. Mitchell; O grade, D. Sutherland!. For the A grade button S. Macdonald and R. Arbnthnott, sen., were equal with 79 off the rifle, and it was impossible to separate them on the count back. The B, grade button was won by L. Thomson with 75 off the rifle. Scores; R.
