STOP PRESS

ITALIANS tULICF; NEW YORK. .September 20. The Rome correspondent of ‘ The New York Times ' .states by radiophone that, considering the dose relations between Greece and England, the Italian decision to withdraw forces from the Graeco-Alban-iali border is equivalent to a friendly gesture towards London. Italy was expected automatically to invade Greece if she entered the war on Germany's side. It is now made clear that she does not intend to carry out that threat. Her prime consideration in the Balkans, to maintain peace and the territorial status quo, is worth nothing when both are menaced by Germany and the Soviet. It is not pleasing to Italian statesmen to see Russia entering the Balkans, it is itnpossible to understand the general Italian opinion towards the war. However, without realising that it ■ is based on a complete and honest inability to understand the AngloSaxon point, of view, to all but one in a thousand a world war in order to destroy Hitlerism is “ a monsterous aberration,” as the 1 Tribuna ’ puts it. Commenting on Hitler’s speech, the entire Press .stresses his will for peace in 1930. FEAR IN BALTIC STATES. NEW YORK, September 20.
