LEAGUE OF NATIONS UNION
OTAGO BRANCH At a w-ell-attended meeting of the Otago branch of the League of Nations Union, presided over by Dr E. N. Herrington, the following resolution was carried : “The League of Nations Union, while deeply regretting the outbreak of the war in which our nation is engaged, recognises the justice of the allied cause in resisting the attack on Poland, a member of the League of Nations, and urges the whole-hearted support of the authorities in their tremendous struggle against lawless violence. The widespread revolt against the rights and liberties of the peoples of the world is due to the departure from the principles of negotiation laid down in the constitution of the League, and the only hope of future peace lies in the revival and observance of those fundamental principles of international decency and reasonableness. With this end in view, the education of public opinion is more necessary than ever before, and the League of Nations Union calls for careful reflection and study in order that the ultimate establishment of a truly constructive peace may be reached' when the disruptive forces of militarism have been overcome by the free nations now engaged in the terrible conflict.- v
