WAR FUND COLLECTIONS
GOVERNMENT'S REQUEST IGNORED APPEAL TO INTERESTED BODIES NO FURTHER ACTIVITY IN MEANTIME [From Ouk Parliamentary Correspondent] WELLINGTON, September 20. Emergency regulations covering the establishment of patriotic funds during the war are likely to be published earlynext week. In the meantime the Government has requested that organisations which are already soliciting donations should cease their activities at once. Concern was expressed to the Hon. W. K. Parry to-day that, despite the position outlined by the Government last Thursday night, a number of campaigns had been launched in New Zealand for the collection of funds for war purposes. “ The Government feels that it is essential that bodies already in the field soliciting donations should call a halt,” said Mr Parry. “Next wedk at tho latest all the necessary provisions for the control, raising, and expenditure of war funds will be in operation, and if necessary the provisions will be mads retrospective in their operation. I can assure these organisations that by continuing their activities, despite the Government’s request, they are doing a disservice, not only to the community, but to themselves. I earnestly ask .that all the arrangements already made and proposed be deferred until the regulations have been issued. Provision is being made in the regulations to deal with moneys already collected.’'
