FESTIVAL CONTINUED The seventh annual Taieri Competitions Festival was continued in the Coronation Hall, Mosgiel, last evening in the presence of a large audience, over which the Rev. A. Macfarlane presided. The following awards were announced at the end of the programme;— RECITATION, humorous, under 12. Recalls from Saturday evening. Miss June Tregilgus and Master .Neville Madden (equal) 1 Miss Margaret Finnie 3 A very good section. The judge said the two competitors gave a very good intemretation, with the humour well brought out. RECITATION, not humorous, 18 and over. Miss Ivy "Williams 1 Miss Mollie Crossan ... 2 Mr Mitchell 3 Also competed; Miss J. Williamson. The winner gave a refined performance of a good selection. The competitor placed second had a good sense of tragedy, but her selection was not as good as the winner's. RECITATION, humorous, 16 years and over. Miss Mollie Crossan 1 Also competed: Miss Ivy Williams. The winner had a good idea. of humour and placed her scene well. The other competitor was better in straight work. RECITATION, Shakespearean, 14 ■ years and over. ONE-ACT PLAYS. A. commencement was made with the onoract plays, and the Outram Drama Clni> staged three — 1 Playgoers.’ ‘ Sanctuary,’ and ‘ The Bride v ’ This section will be continued this evening and on Thursday evening. ' This evening’s programme will consist of tap dancing, operatic dancing, piano duet (18 years and over), vocal solo (ladies), vocal solo (gents), piano solos, vocal quartet, and one-act plays. addition to the committee and office-bearers already mentioned in earlier reports, the following are lending valuable assistance at each session: —Competitors’ marshal, Mr W T . Campbell; stage manager, Mr S. W. Osborne; assistant stage manager and timekeeper, Mr J. W. Johnston; i 'edges’ and Press steward, Mr B. Cwart; chief usher, Mr S. Dyer.
The Wilson Memorial Cup for most points in national dancing was awarded to Miss Rae Garland (10 points).
