SOCIETY'S MONTHLY MEETING Th« monthlv meeting of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals was held yesterday. Mr J, 0. Willis occupying' the chair. Committee members present were Messrs Tt. Fountain, W- Cooper, J. Gordon, G. Mathe-
son, M. C. Henderson, and J, Henderson.
A letter was received from the Auckland Society, asking for the attitude of the society" to the matter of stray cats and dogs. Mr Willis; I think our inspector spends too much time attending to calls about stray cats. After some discussion it was agreed that the matter of stray cats and dogs, unless iliey were injured, was uue for the local body..
It was decided to make the usual arrangements for the observance of Animal Welfare Week, which is to ha hold in the first week of December. The inspector (Mr J. J. Hinchcliff)' reported that during the month he had visited a number of country districts. He had also attended stock sales ai Burnside, Milton, Balclutha, Owaka, Clinton, and Allanton, and a horse sale in the city. Five cases of cruelty had been in* restigated satisfactorily.
