awaiting war taxation MEASURES ONLY MAJOR BUSINESS LEFT [From Our Parliamentary Reporter.] WELLINGTON, September 19. Marking time until the introduction of the war finance measures, the House yesterday paid attention to a few minop Bills, and members, realising that there was no urgency about clearing the order paper, devoted themselves to a leisurely discussion of _ various _ phase* of land settlement while debating the second reading of the Small Farm* Settlement Bill. Perhaps to their surprise, the adjournment hour wa* reached with the measure still awaiting the second reading. The Native Purposes Bill and the Local Legislation Bill, introduced by Governor’s Message prior to the adjournment, were further indications that the session is close to its end. ■ The Acting ‘Prime Minister (the Hon. P. Fraser), in reply to t an Opposition question, suggested pleasantly that if everyone worked harmoniously the House might complete its work by Friday, but discounted this optimism when Mr Forbes inquired if the.
