The Egyptian Premier appealed for unity in a broadcast speech. He announced that the Egyptian Parliament would be called for an extraordinary session shortly. “ Egypt,” ho said, “ might be called upon to do a great deal in the future.’ Members of the British Navy, Army, and Air Forces are to have organised entertainment. Concert parties will be arranged for the larger camps, while mobile cinema units will entertain small units in remote districts. A Budapest communique states that Rumania will continue to observe the same attitude of neutrality towards the belligerents as hitherto. The unknown German radio station in a broadcast reported the arrest of prominent Catholic leaders in Prague, and stated that Polish miners in Silesia blew up the mines before leaving them, so that the German forces could not obtain more coal. The announcer referred to the bitter struggle that is going on between the people of Austria and the agents of Hitlerism, and concluded with, “ You will hear from us again, despite the Gestapo. Down with Hitler. Long live the free, independent Germany.” No British shipping over 500 tons registered in Canada can go to sea without a license. The Japanese Press urges the Japanese Government to pursue a watchful, waiting attitude to the European situation following Russia’s engagement, which it is believed will mark the turning point in the European war. Any further Soviet proposals for an agreement on differences with Japan will he' welcome. Japanese troops have started'successful military operations in some of the provinces.
