AIRCRAFT CARRIER COURAGEOUS SURVIVORS PICKED UP ATTACKING SUBMARINE BELIEVED ACCOUNTED FOR LONDON, September 18. The Admiralty regrets to announce the loss of the aircraft carrier H.M.S. Courageous following an attack by an enemy submarine. The survivors were picked up by destroyers and merchant ships. The submarine was attacked by destroyers and is believed to have been sunk. The Admiralty announced that the Courageous was carrying a “ reduced complement of planes.” She was attached to the Reserve fleet in August.
