O.R.F.U, MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE MEETING The weekly meeting of the Management Committee of the Otago Rugby Football Union was held Inst night, the president (Mr D. C. Jolly) being in the chair. SECOND GRADE COMPETITION. The Flag Committee reported that two complete rounds had been played in section 1. of the second grade competition, and it recommended that the competition be closed and Training College declared the winners. The Flag Committee recommended one more round of matches be played in section 2 of the third grade, when it considered finality would be reached. It also recommended one more round of matches in sections 1 and 2 of the fifth grade competition, when it considered finality would be reached. The committee’s report was adopted, and it was decided to write congratulating the Training College on winning the second grade (section 1) competition. The referee in the Zingari-Richmond-Training College second grade match reported that Zingari was unable to field a team and the match had been awarded to Training College by default. Mr A. H. Cameron explained that Zingari had hoped to field a team, but during the' week a number of the players had been called up for military duties, and it was impossible to field a fifteen. The match was awarded to Training College. SUB-UNION’S ACTION. The South Tuapeka Sub-union wrote explaining its attitude in playing one of its teams against the Bruce Club, which was not affiliated to any subunion. The sub-union held that under the rules it was quite in order in playing matches against the Bruce Club. Mr Harris moved that in the opinion of the committee the South Tuapeka Sub-union know that the Bruce Club had been refused affiliation to the South Otago Sub-union, and that being so, it should not have played matches against the Bruce Club without the consent of the Otago Union. The motion was carried. PLAYER STOOD DOWN. The referee (Mr P. G. Lovvrie) in the fifth grade match, Dunedin v. Green Island, reported that he had ordered off a Dunedin player for striking an opponent. He stated that in the first spell he had had to speak to both captains regarding' the amount of rough play. The player appeared before the committee, and it was decided to suspend him for one playing Saturday. PRIMARY SCHOOLS’ FOOTBALL. It was decided to forward a letter of congratulations to the Otago State Primary Schools’ Sports Association on the fine showing made by _ the Otago primary schools’ representative team in defeating Southland on Saturday,. the Chairman stating that the Otago boys had played attractive football, which was. a credit to them. ALL BLACK TRIALS. It was decided that, owing to the late notice, the Otago players for the South Island-North Island game and the All Black trials —W. I. Perriam, A. A. Parkhill, G. McDonald, W. H. Jolly, and D. E. Murray—would not leave Dunedin for Wellington until Thursday morning. FOURTH GRADE TRIAL. The Zingari-Richmond third grade team was granted permission to travel to Milton on Saturday to play the Toko. Club, and permission was also granted for a return game to be played at Montecillo at 1.30 on September 30. The Training College Club was granted permission to play a match with the Clutha Club at Bathgate Park on September 30, The Taieri Club was granted permission to enter two teams in the seven-a-side tournament, to be held at Beaumont. Mr W. J. Pearson, reporting on behalf of the Otago Selection Committee, stated that it had not been possible to arrange a match with an Otago team and an outside team on Saturday. SATURDAY’S MATCHES. The chairman (Mr M. K. Haig) presided, the other members present being Messrs M. G. M'lnnes, F. Ball, J. Jeffrey, H. Cnimiugham, F. Munsie, and Fleming,

Thirteen entries were received for the five-a-side competition; with the probability of another. It was decided that games be of seven minutes each way, with no interval, with corners to count in the event of a draw in goals, and after that an extra three minutes each way, if there was still a draw. Lato entries will be taken on the ground. Handling by the goalkeeper will be only in the penalty area, and replacements allowable only in the case of injuries. Dir D. Hanlin was appointed convener of the committee controlling the tournament, with Messrs Dlunsie, Cunningham, Jeffrey, and Fleming to assist. Following is the draw for the first round:— Caversham C v. Mosgiel B; Mosgiel A v. Mosgiel C; Caversham A v. High School Old boys; Caversham B v. Seaolilf; University v. Maori Hill A ; Ros-lyn-Wakari v. Maori Hill B; Technical a bye. Games will be played in this order at 15-minute intervals from 1.15. COMPETITION CLOSED. Caversham were declared the winners of the fourth grade competition, with High School runners-up. NORTHERN TO TRAVEL. Northern were granted permission to travel to Mataura to play there on Saturday, with Dir W. P. Smith as manager. FIXTURES. —Primary Schools’ Final.— Dlornington v.
