ST. KILDA AFFAIRS
MEETING OF COUNCIL The fortnightly meeting of the St. Hilda Borough Council was held last night, the mayor (Mr J. J. Marlow) presiding. There were present Crs H. H. Johnson, E. Longwortb, J. C. Cherry, T, B. D. Hoy, R. S. Brent, W. J. Lovell, G. Glue, and N. D. Anderson. CORRESPONDENCE. The Secretary of the Amenities Society wrote asking if the council could <lo something towards the upkeep of the grass on and behind the tram and railway lines along Royal Crescent. —lt was decided to refer the hoard to the tramways department as the matter was not one concerning the St. Hilda Council. FINANCIAL. The Finance Committee recommended payment of accounts amounting to £2,218 9s Id. Receipts were reported as £305 Is 6d, the bank balance standing at credit £1,775 9s lid. —Adopted. DEPARTMENTAL REPORTS, The inspector (Mr F. T. De Largey) reported having tested three drivers and having issued 29 licenses. — Adopted. The plumber (Mr A. N. Shepperd) reported that he had tested 14 water bursts for the period ended September 13, and detailed other work needing his attention.—Adopted. The foreman (Mr J. O. Clyma) reported on his activities for the period ended September 15. For the ensuing fortnight he recommended kerbing and channelling two chains on the north side of Ferguson street. —Adopted. WATER CONSUMPTION.
Water consumption amounted to 2.625,000 gallons, at a cost of £lO3 18s id. For the previous fortnight the cost was £lO7 4s 7d.—Noted,
