SOUTH OTAGO NOTES
[From Our Correspondent.] PERSONAL. Miss M. 0. Dunne, who for the past 13} years has been a member of the office staff of the Otago Electric Power Board, relinquished her position at the week-end, owing to her approaching marriage and removal to the North Island. Yesterday afternoon she was met by the staff, and Mr L. W. Potter (secretary), on their behalf, presented her witli a handbag and wished her all happiness in the future. Miss Dunne suitably replied. Mr George Melville, for the past 10 years in the office of the Bruce Woollen Company, has been appointed accountant to the Otago Power Board, and on Friday evening was met by the heads of the department of the woollen company and presented with a travelling clock and military hair brushes. Mr and Mrs R. Robertson, of Tokoiti, Milton, yesterday afternoon celebrated their golden wedding, a large number of friends and relatives being present. About 60 attended the - twenty-first birthday ,party of Miss Ruth Newbigging, daughter of Mrs W. Newbigging, Moneymore, on Saturday night. A happy time was spent in dancing, interspersed with items by Mr J. Palmer, of Lawrence. After supper Mr Wilson Elliott, Balelutha, presented the guest of the evening with the “ key,” and wished her all good things in ■ the future. The birthday cake (a gift) was cut by Miss Newbigging, who was accorded musical honours. Mrs Newbigging replied on behalf of her daughter, who was the recipient of many gifts. CLUTHA PRESBYTERY. A meeting of Clutha Presbytery was held on Friday, the Rev. A. J. Wardlaw presiding. A motion of sympathy with the Rev. T. M. M'Donakl on the death of his father was carried, and a welcome was extended to Rev. 0. T. Baragwanath, 8.A., recently inducted to Balelutha charge. A call to the Rev. T. M. M'Donald, of Waiwera-Warepa charge was received from Green Island church, and was accepted by Mr M'Donald. Messrs Ayson, Neale, and Sutherland spoke of the very fine work done by Mr M'Donald while stationed at Waiwera. The call was sustained by Presbytery, and the induction at Green Island was fixed for October 5. The Rev. W. M'Neur (Clutha Valley) was appointed interim moderator of Waiwera-Warepa, and the Rev R. S. Judson (Clinton) interim moderator of Owaka and Gatlins. Several members expressed regret at Mr M'Donald’s departure. Delegates to the General Assembly in Christchurch on November 13 were appointed as follows :—Ministers from Clutha Valley, Kaitangata, Lawrence, Owaka, Tokomairiro, Waiwera-Warepa, elders from Lovell’s Flat, Balelutha, Inch Clutha, South Clutha, Waitahuna, and Popotunoa. KAITANGATA CRICKET CLUB. Mr G. M'Lean presided over a small attendance at the annual meeting of the above club. The balance sheet showed a credit of £4 2s ad. Mr M'Lean was re-elected president, and Mr W. Parker secretary, and these members were also appointed delegates to the 5.0.C.A., while a number of vice-presidents were appointed. The matter of travelling this coming season owing to petrol restrictions was discussed, and was referred to the association meeting. It was decided to commence practice as soon as the ground was available.
