OTAGO BEATS NORTH OTAGO

BRIGHT, FAST RUGBY ]u bright sunshine, on a perfect ground surface, Otago and North Otago gave the biggest gathering of spectators seen at Oaraaru this year a very good game to watch. Otago won by 18 points (two tries, one converted, two penalty goals, and a field goal) to 11 tone try converted and two penalty goals). There was nothing between the two teams. Indeed, North Otago held a territorial advantage for most of the game, due to the fine work of its forwards, who were slightly superior to the Otago pack. The Otago backs handled "better than the home rearguard, but were given a better service by their half-back, Simpson, who was much superior to bis vis-a-vis, Edc. Th.‘ fine tackling of the North Otago backs, particularly Easton, broke up every U-iago back movement. Pcrriani was the best Otago back, and Simpson also played very well-, Parkhill, M'Donald. and Hill were the best Otago forwards. For North Otago, Easton was the outstanding player, M'Laren being the best of the other backs. Green, a St. Kevin’s College boy, played a very fine game at centre three-quarters. In the first spell Trevathan kicked a penalty goal and Perriam followed up a ipunt to score a try. Easton kicked two penalty goals for North Otago, and the half-time score was 6 all. The second half was full of incident, one highlight being a great run by Easton from his own twenty-five before finding touch' in the Otago quarter. Otago were lucky to score the next try. Trevathan missed a pot at goal, and the defence was very slow in forcing after being beaten by thevbounce. Murray raced up and scored a “ gift ” try. At his third attempt Trevathan potted a good field goal, and Perriam kicked a penalty goal, making the score 18-0. There were many penalty kicks for scrum infringements by both sides. North Otago finished well. Green scoring a nice try after accepting a reverse pass by Kilgour. Easton converted, and the final score was;— Otago 18 North Otago 11
