EX-OFFICER'S DEATH
KILLED BY PROPELLER A man identified as Anthony Makeson, aged 36, of Knightsbridge, was billed instantly when struck on tUo head by the propellor of ah aeroplane outside the hangars of Air Dispatch, at Croydon recently, reports the London ‘ Daily Telegraph.’ He was formerly a lieutenant in a Lancer regimnet and had recently been in business, which involved travelling in Mexico and Ireland. He is believed to have a fiancee in Germany. . , , A few minutes before he was killed Makeson had asked a pilot if he could be taken for a flight. Mr N. M. Emerson, the, pilot, who is attached to Surrey Flying Services, said to a representative of the Daily Telegraph ’: — . “ The man seemed strange in nis manner. He told me he had flown about two years ago and would like to be taken up for half an hour and shown the controls. He said he particularly wanted me to do some steep turns. , .... .... “ When he insisted on sitting in the back seat and refused to have the earphones on. I said that it was against regulations. He then said that he would not go with me. “ Less than five minutes later I heard a cry and saw the man falling in front of another machine which had been taxi-ing to the petrol pumps to refuel and was almost stationary.” f Police found two letters in the man s pockets, written on the notepaper of a London hotel. Both were sealed. Makeson had been a member of a cavalrv club, but had been suspended A friend said he had been very much interested in flying.
