TRANSPORT ACT LICENSES
NECESSARY FOR TAXIS AND TOWN CARRIERS
[Per United Press Association.]
WELLINGTON, September 15. The Commissioner of Transport (Mr G. L. Laurenson), in a statement today, said that the recent amendment to the transport legislation means that a license under the Transport Act is now required by all taxis, town carriers, and certain ancillary users. The last-named class is comprised of firms who use their own vehicles for tho conveyance of their own goods. In the case of ancillary users, a license will be required by those operators who use trucks that weigh more than two tons laden over routes that include not less than 30 miles of Government railway. Farmers and market gardeners are, however, exempt from this requirement. Applications for licenses will not be required from taxi operators in Thames, Hamilton, Taumarunui, und Christchurch, who already have been licensed under the Transport Act. The lodging of applications for licenses is a matter or urgency, and operators are advised that it is in their own interests to give this matter immediate attention.
